After a heated summer, NYPHP is pleased to cool things down this Fall with a look at a leading PHP framework, Joomla!. Join us this September as we welcome
Joomla New York leaders Elin Waring and Scott Wolpow to give us an update and overview of this popular framework.
Joomla! is a GPL PHP Framework designed for rapid application development. The Platform is most famously used by the Joomla! Content Management System (which powers about 2.7% of the web) but is also used on other large projects including for eBay's in house data analytics project and Viacom's Quizilla site. It is now easily available for building other applications. We'll look at some of the key features of the API and some basic applications.
Elin Waring is a long time Joomla! user and former President of Open Source Matters, the non profit organization that provides legal, financial and organizational support to the Joomla! Project. In that role she led a number of initiatives ranging from writing the translation policy to obtaining a trademark for the Joomla! Brand.
She has made over 7000 posts on the Joomla! forums and wrote most of the Frequently Asked Questions for Joomla! 1.0. She is an active member of the Joomla! Bug Squad and participates in many Joomla! events.
Scott Wolpow is coordinating
JoomlaNYC 2011.
He began in business at age 7 selling crafts to a local boutique. That business expanded in size to include catalog sales. From that point on he was always involved in business. Scott became involved with the Internet in 1995 by developing a site for collectible dealers to market their wares. The site had live auctions, storefronts and content. His next large project was a review site for high end consumer goods where he created an unique indexing systems for the goods. That site closed soon after the death of its founder.
